MiBoFlo and meibomian gland expression focus on the oil-producing glands along your eyelids. At Dry Eyes Los Angeles, part of Village Eyes Optometry in Westwood, we begin with an evaluation to understand whether blocked or poorly functioning glands are contributing to your symptoms.
How MiBoFlo works
MiBoFlo applies controlled warmth to the outside of the closed eyelids. Gentle massage helps warm thickened gland oils. When appropriate, your doctor follows warming with manual meibomian gland expression to help release retained secretions.
What to expect
Your visit starts with a review of your symptoms and eyelid findings. During treatment, you rest with your eyes closed while the applicator moves over the lids. Your clinician adjusts treatment to your comfort and explains any planned expression. Tell us about tenderness or discomfort during the visit.
Where it fits in your plan
MiBoFlo may be considered for selected patients with meibomian gland dysfunction and evaporative dry eye. Your doctor discusses alternatives, expected benefits, limitations and follow-up. It may be combined with daily eyelid care or other treatments when appropriate; results and the need for repeat visits vary.
